"I knew there was more to life than me being flattered at the notion that my most profound contribution to the world was my womb, and so I abandoned the many connections I formed with these women and I struck it out on my own without a roadmap. Many maps and blueprints and to-do lists exist for women who want to confine themselves to the playpens of life. There is so much advice out there for women to attract the male gaze.

But the courageous woman who dares to escape is left to wander the wilderness. And society designs it to be this way so that we eventually return to the fold, shut the fuck up, and sit and wait to be picked. Because we are supposed to conclude after trying to make it in the world without a clue as to what we are doing that men know what’s best for us.

So I will admit that it is scary to be so isolated from the droves of women who are simply waiting to be rescued, but I wouldn’t have it any other way."
