Many men are not raised from boyhood to follow a high standard of masculinity, as we are still excusing their abhorrent behavior with the, “Boys will be boys” rhetoric. So when your behavior has been conveniently and repeatedly excused as an inherent flaw or problem, with the “Boys will be boys” justification as a child and the “Men are visual creatures!” one in adulthood, how on earth can you maintain a higher standard of masculinity when the same personal shortcomings that threaten your ability to carry out this standard still exists?
